Pure Martial in Rpgs

·

Fantasy RPGs are full of magic, monsters, and mysteries. But not every adventurer needs to wield arcane spells or divine powers to be effective. Sometimes, the best way to face the challenges of a fantasy world is with nothing but your skill, strength, and steel.

One of the main advantages of playing a pure martial class is that you have a lot of options to customize your character and adapt to different situations. You can choose from a wide variety of weapons, armor, feats, skills, and fighting styles to suit your preferences and tactics. You can also multiclass or take prestige classes to gain additional abilities and features.

For example, a fighter can specialize in a single weapon, such as a greatsword or a longbow, and become a master of that weapon. Or they can use different weapons for different scenarios, such as a sword and shield for defense, a polearm for reach, or a crossbow for ranged attacks. A fighter can also focus on a particular aspect of combat, such as mobility, defense, offense, or teamwork, and select feats and skills that enhance that aspect.

A barbarian can choose from different types of rage, such as a berserker rage that grants bonus damage and temporary hit points, a totem rage that grants animal-like abilities, or a primal rage that grants elemental powers. A barbarian can also select different rage powers that grant them additional benefits while raging, such as fast movement, damage reduction, or immunity to certain effects.

A rogue can specialize in a particular skill, such as stealth, lockpicking, or diplomacy, and use that skill to gain an edge in and out of combat. Or they can be a jack-of-all-trades and have a broad range of skills to handle any situation. A rogue can also choose from different talents that grant them unique abilities, such as sneak attack, evasion, or trapfinding.

A monk can choose from different traditions, such as a martial artist that focuses on unarmed strikes and combat maneuvers, a zen archer that uses a bow as a deadly weapon, or use ki to perform supernatural feats. A monk can also select different ki powers that grant them special abilities, such as extra attacks, healing, or flight.

Another benefit of playing a pure martial class is that you can always count on your abilities and resources. Unlike spellcasters, who have a limited number of spells per day and need to prepare them in advance, martial classes can use their abilities and features as often as they want, as long as they meet the requirements. You don’t have to worry about running out of spells, choosing the wrong spells, or facing enemies that are immune or resistant to your spells.

For example, a fighter can use their weapon training, armor training, and combat feats in every encounter, regardless of the enemy type, terrain, or situation. A barbarian can rage as many times per day as they have rounds of rage, and can enter or end their rage as a free action. A rogue can sneak attack any enemy that is denied their Dexterity bonus to AC, or that is flanked by an ally, and can use their talents at will. A monk can use their flurry of blows, stunning fist, and ki powers as long as they have ki points, and can regain ki points by resting or meditating.

Martial classes offer a lot of opportunities for roleplaying, creativity, and excitement. You can create a memorable and distinctive character with a unique backstory, personality, and goals. You can also use your skills and abilities to interact with the world, solve problems, and overcome challenges in interesting and clever ways.

For example, a fighter can be a noble knight, a grizzled veteran, a gladiator, a pirate, or a mercenary. They can use their combat feats and skills to perform amazing stunts, such as disarming, tripping, or grappling their foes, or using the environment to their advantage. A barbarian can be a savage warrior, a tribal leader, a berserker, a hunter, or a wanderer. They can use their rage and rage powers to unleash their primal fury, such as smashing, charging, or leaping at their enemies, or summoning the forces of nature. A rogue can be a thief, a spy, a assassin, a swashbuckler, or a trickster. They can use their sneak attack and talents to strike from the shadows, deceive their opponents, or escape from danger. A monk can be a martial artist, a zen master, a mystic, a ninja, or a hermit. They can use their flurry of blows, stunning fist, and ki powers to perform incredible feats, such as breaking objects, stunning enemies, or flying through the air.
