Armor of agathys is a strategic spell for melee combatants who can withstand multiple hits and deal cold damage to their attackers. Some of its benefits are:

• It does not require concentration, so it can be combined with other spells that do.
• It lasts for up to an hour, so it can be cast before a fight or during a short rest.
• It scales well with higher-level spell slots, increasing both the temporary hit points and the cold damage by 5 for each slot level above 1st.
